    FRANCHI AFFINITY 3 VS BENELLI M2 SERIES

    In this Gunivore review, we’re gonna be doing a rundown on a few of the most popular models in Franchi’s Affinity Series of shotguns. Although they may not be my favorite hunting weapons, I can’t deny their superior balance, custom-feel, and innovative construction.

    Franchis are distinctive because they offer classic Italian artistry mixed with a performance you’d expect from a high-grade American shotgun. These semi-automatic shotguns are offered in a variety of sizes, gauges, finishes, weights, stocks, and even left-handed models. Now that I have the basic idea down, I could see creating a few more renditions.Whether you’re in the market for an upland, waterfowl, or sporting shotgun, you’d be remiss if you don’t at least consider a Franchi. I put a little jb weld in the cap, inserted the bound post and remnant, then filled it the rest of the way with jb weld. I tied them together with a small piece of 550 cord. I used a remnant piece of rod and cut a flat in it for the oval shaped section. This is a nice, large handle that feels comfortable to me and my trusty tester. Some jb weld and some ingenuity resulted in this. I found the "handle" on an old ak butt stock cleaning kit. I map gas hardened the steel post and sought a fitting handle that I was comfortable using. I measured and marked all the remaining areas I would need and created a post that fit perfectly. I shaped the end, according to my measurements, using my 6" belt sander. I got a few more measurements, one of my harbor freight precision ROUND files, and cut a groove using the drill as my lathe. I cut the cleaning rod into a shorter, more manageable section and chucked it in my drill. I mic'd the post and found the an old ak cleaning rod was the same diameter. This also allowed me some much needed alone time to tinker. With some degree of confidence, I set out to create the handle that would work for my gun, and cut out the wait time for shipping. My Affinity has the recessed oval in the bolt which requires the second type pictured. When buying a replacement for a Franchi Affinity, one could find favorable search results in "Franchi I-12, Benelli SBE, or Benelli M2 Charging handles. There are a few different styles and a several fit many models. I found a few opions for replacment in Benelli style bolt handles. The factory bolt handle is sharp and uncomfortable. Was shopping for bolt handles when I realized I could just make one for my new Franchi Affinity.
